Tracy Metro

Tracy Metro (yes, that IS her real name) does it all... just like a good ol’ fashioned bottle of Formula 409! She cooks, she sews, she even does windows – installs them, that is. Well, perhaps installing window blinds is more her speed… but either way, Metro, a pro with most household power tools, is the host of “Skil Shop,” the how-to TV show that’s teaching everyday people to build all sorts of fun things as well as being the construction gal on Paint it Forward.

Who knew that Formula 409 also has an earth-friendly cleaner? Tracy knew, because she’s an eco-conut! Metro was eco-chic before “eco” and “chic” were even hyphenated! An avid re-user and a practical-environmentalist, Metro believes one small change really can impact the world… and touts it while profiling eco-products as the host of Discovery’s show, “Green Gadgets.” She also writes for many green blogs including the Huffington Post, Ecorazzi and Alionthego.

409 even cleans up when doing man-on-the-street interviews. Tracy’s snappy repartee can be seen as she hosts Disney’s “In The Credits” and “Fan On the Street.” Of course, Metro put on a great polish when co-hosting Mark Burnett’s “Gold Rush,” and reporting for Fine Living’s “American Shopper.”

As your cleaning lady can tell you, Formula 409 does more than just windows; it also tackles tough surfaces throughout the kitchen. And, as long as we’re in the kitchen, we may as well have Metro plan one of her “themetastic” dinner parties for which she’s become almost-famous. Ask her about the moose head at her “White Trash Gourmet” party, or the 101 people she invited to her “101 Twenty-Minute Appetizers” party (yes, there were 101 different appetizers there!).

Metro’s culinary “training” took a decidedly different route than many of the chefs she admires. Unlike those who trained at the Culinary Institute of America, Le Cordon Bleu or L’Ecole Culinaire; Metro cut her teeth at the very 70s kitsch, strip-mall cooking school-cum-retail store, “What’s Cooking?” in the sexy suburban town of Rockville, Maryland. More of a survival course than a finishing school Tracy learned to turn lemons into lemon soufflé and says you can always “fake it unless you bake it! “ She’s a non-chef chef on GoodBite.com.

If anyone cares, Tracy and her husband started UsedCardboardBoxes.com, which was recently voted one of America’s Top 10 best green companies of 2007 & 2008, by Coop America and she has a BFA from TISCH School of the Arts at NYU.
